The research report co-written with Ben McCabe explores the aims, methods and results from an in-depth primary research process into retrofitting food centred space in the New Town of Hatfield in the United Kingdom. The research identifies a range of possible design intervention scenarios along the food chain from spaces of production, distribution, retailing, consumption and waste. Using social science and urban design methods the work suggests way to make use of underunilised semi-public spaces. Scenarios include community gardens, community orchards, revived allotment areas, revived market squares, edible planting in the town's business park, a walkable 'foodway' between the University of Hertfordshire's two main campuses and potager gardens in outlying hamlets.
