In this paper, I put forward a new understanding of the ethical dimension of Wittgenstein's Tractatus. I present an alternative to what has come to be known as the Schopenhauerian reading on Tractarian ethics. The Schopenhauerian reading makes two central claims: firstly, that the Tractatus posits a transcendental subject as condition of ethics; secondly, that, for Wittgenstein, morality involves making a choice between two attitudes towards the world. In this paper, I argue against this reading and defend an alternative understanding of the ethical purpose of the Tractatus.
